What can I do if internet connection is slow when the device is connected to the MERCUSYS DSL Modem?
There are different situations in relation to the slow speed issue, please refer to the picture below to locate the problem and troubleshoot it according to the corresponding suggestions.
End-device means computer, laptop, mobile phone, etc.
When running the speedtest, please try the different speedtest servers/nodes and it is recommended to use speedtest App not web for test.
Login to the web interface of the modem (refer to here). Check DSL Status. Please take a screenshot of the Status page for further help.
Connect only one end-device to your Mercusys DSL modem via Ethernet cable, and run the Speedtest (www.speedtest.net) three times without doing any other high bandwidth activities like P2P download. Take screenshots as well.
Check wired link speed of the end-device (refer to here). Skip this step if you don’t know where to find it.
Locate the Network Utility on your Mac: Applications > Utilities > Network Utility. Alternatively, search Network Utility in Spotlight Search.
Contact Mercusys support with screenshots of Status page, Speedtest results and link speed info, and let us know the total bandwidth your ISP provides.
Simplify network topology by connecting only one end-device to the Mercusys modem’s WiFi, and run the Speedtest（www.speedtest.net）three times without doing any other high bandwidth activities like P2P download. Take screenshots.
Check wireless link speed of your end-device (refer to here). Take Screenshots (skip this step if you don’t know where to find it).
Make sure you select network utility. Select Info tab and choose Wi-fi (en0 or en1) on the drop-down options. Please note that the Link Speed is your wireless connection speed. In this example, the link speed is 450 Mbit/s (Mega bits per seconds).
Change Channel and Channel Width (refer to here):
For 2.4GHz, change the Channel (channels 1, 6 and 11 are generally best, but any channel can be used, please try a few more channels). A wireless channel determines which operating frequency will be in use. It is not necessary to change the channel unless you’re noticing interference problems with nearby wireless networks.
Change 2.4G Channel width to 40MHz If your wireless device supports 40MHz bandwidth. Usually higher bandwidth means higher speed.
Contact Mercusys support with the above results for further help and let us know the operating system of end-device you use and total bandwidth or wired speed that you test.
